Jonathan Lewis:

Working with a wide range of individuals across a wide range of different physical endeavours Jonathan recognises the remarkable diversity in the movement skills and abilities that humans are capable of becoming proficient in. Conversely he understands that there are common factors that link athletes of every denomination. These common factors should be recognised as essential to us all and pursued by every man and woman, despite this even amongst the highest level performers these abilities are often under exploited, neglected and in some cases absent.

Physical training for athletic and occupational performance.
As a practitioner of any martial art or sport, or someone engaged in a physically demanding job you need to have strength, conditioning (physical and mental), agility and movement qualities that will allow you to express your specific skills effectively and repeatedly. Resilience to injury and mental toughness, for when the challenge increases, are other qualities to work on and develop: their presence should not be taken for granted. It doesn't matter how skilful you are in your chosen area, if your opponent out conditions you its game over. By the same token you could have fantastic metabolic conditioning, strength and power in the controlled environment of the conventional gym or with straight line movement but without high quality movement abilities you will be unable to make it count when faced by unpredictable and chaotic situations (i.e real life). Think of a formula one engine in a Robin Reliant, or Lance Armstrong's cardiovascular system in John Prescott as extreme examples of good on the inside inadequate on the outside.

Consequently one of the primary roles of the strength and conditioning coach must be to address and optimise athletic movement potential: the correct use and application of dynamic mobility, bodyweight conditioning and kettlebell drills can play a fundamental part in achieving this. Jonathan draws upon academic knowledge, personal achievement, professional experience and a passion for physical training and movement to improve his clients’ athleticism and work capacity.
